NORTHAMPTON — It has been quite the spring season for the Amherst Regional girls track and field team, and Wednesday added to the Hurricanes’ undefeated campaign. Both the Amherst girls and boys defeated Northampton behind terrific performances both on the track and in the field. The Amherst girls won by a score of 103-33.

On the girls side, the star quartet of Ololara Baptiste, Ruby Austin, Claire Fortin and Moriah Luetjen turned in a time of 49.3 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay. Fortin also won the triple jump (36 feet), Austin won the 100 (13.1) while Baptiste took first in the 200 (26.4) for Amherst.

Elizabeth Sawicki (400, 1:07.1 and 110 hurdles, 16.7), Genevieve Dole (two mile, 13:01.2), Skylar Fox (400, 58.7) and Brooke NeDeau (800, 2:31.9) were some more of the Hurricanes’ winners on the track. Juliana Albo swept the long (17 feet) and high jumps (5 feet). Yairelis Bachand grabbed first in the shot put (28-6) and discus (86-10), and Sanaa Johnson recorded a throw of 72-5 in the javelin to take first.

Charlotte Shimpach took first in the mile (5:53.6) for Northampton.

Amherst coach Chris Gould sang his team’s praises after the meet.

“They’re definitely where I want them to be at this point in the season,” Gould said. “The thing I dwell on most is not pushing them too often, not overworking them. I try to find the sweet spot where we’re competing hard and getting better, but they don’t come to me two or three weeks from now and say they’re cooked already. The girls are on track to have a very successful postseason.”

For the boys, Amherst’s Miles Jeffries raced his way to first-place finishes in the 100 (11.0) and 200 (22.2), Calvin Miller ran a 54.4 in the 400 to take first and Owen Platt finished first in the 800 (2:04.5) to round out Amherst’s track winners.

Logan Alfandari won the discus (164-1) and shot put (52-10¼), Peter Tanguay took first in the javelin (112-3), Xavier McCall won the high jump (5-4), Maxence Dorelien won the long jump (17-10) and Samuel Nunez took first in the triple jump (32-¼) for the Hurricanes’ field winners.
