Easthampton man, 72, struck and killed by car while walking on Route 10

EASTHAMPTON — A 72-year-old Easthampton man walking on Route 10 was killed after being struck by a car traveling south late Tuesday afternoon, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was crossing Route 10 near 412 Main St. at around 4:30 p.m. when he was hit by the car driven by a 39-year-old Westfield man. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with police, according to the DA’s office.

Police and other emergency personnel closed Route 10 between South Street and Coleman Road for a time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Easthampton Police, the State Police Detectives attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and state troopers with the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section are investigating the collision.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
