Claire Fortin and Juliana Albo each had huge days to help the Amherst Regional girls track and field team to a 96-49 victory over Minnechaug on Wednesday afternoon in Wilbraham.

Fortin grabbed first in the 100-meter dash (12.3) and 200-meter dash (26.5) while Albo finished first in the 100-meter hurdles (19.3), long jump (15-10) and assisted the ‘Canes 4x100-meter relay team to a first-place finish in 53.2 alongside Elizabeth Sawicki, Maeve Fitzgerald and Maddie Hockman.

Yairelis Bachand (discus, 84-02), Sawicki (pole vault, 8-06 and 400-meter hurdles, 1:09.4), Moriah Luetjen (400-meter run, 56.5) and Ella Jamate (800-meter run, 2:32.0) also all picked up first-place finishes for Amherst in Wednesday’s win.

Amherst next travels to Northampton on Wednesday, May 7 for a meet with the Blue Devils in a Battle of the Bridge rivalry at 4:30 p.m.

Boys tennis

Frontier 4, Turners 1 — Oliver Brown picked up a win in No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-0) while Xavier Fripp earned a victory in No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0) for the Redhawks in a triumph over the Thunder in South Deerfield Wednesday. 

Noah Nichols and Harrison Manning won in No. 1 doubles (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) while Matt Sibley and Sage Davis took No. 2 doubles (6-4, 6-4) for Frontier.

Northampton 5, Minnechaug 0 — The Blue Devils swept their fourth consecutive match on Wednesday to go to 6-1 overall.

Reilly Fowles (6-1, 6-0) and Durrell Patrick (6-1, 6-1) made quick work of their singles matches while Kaz Sugihara fought hard to earn a 5-7, 6-2, 11-9 win at third singles. Oliver Levine and Reed O’Connor won at first doubles and Jackson Briggs-Nye and Emiliano Hidalgo triumphed at No. 2 doubles.

Belchertown 4, West Springfield 1 — The Orioles improved to 11-2 with the victory on Wednesday.

Amanda Murray (7-5, 6-1) and Gianna Picardi (6-1, 6-1) won in singles for Belchertown, while in doubles, Katie Collins and Edith Audette (first) and Emma Kornbluth and Allie Randall (second) won in two sets apiece.

Amherst 3, East Longmeadow 2 — Katie Gromacki and Emma Learned-Miller continued their winnings ways at first and second singles, with Gromacki picking up a 6-1, 6-0 win and Learned-Miller earning a 6-1, 6-2 triumph on Wednesday in Amherst.

Daniella Sherman and Aliya Osman notched the match-clinching victory, winning 6-3, 6-3 at first doubles to improve Amherst to 9-1 this spring.

Northampton 4, Agawam 1 — The Blue Devils swept the singles matches and split doubles to move to 4-7 on the season. 

Bess King Pollet and Emmi Warren each grinded out three-set victories as King Pollet won 7-5, 4-6, 10-5, and Warren won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Ruth Pollin won third singles for Northampton 6-0, 6-0.

The Blue Devils’ first doubles of Casey Barber and Giselle Ohm took the win by scores of 6-4, 7-5.

Holyoke 3, Pope Francis 2 — The Purple Knights snapped their four-match losing streak to improve to 2-5.

Baseball

Belchertown 7, Pittsfield 1 — The Orioles scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back to win their sixth game in a row.

Canyon Charron had the hot bat, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Joshua Misiaszek went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Misiaszek had his stuff going from the mound too, going all seven innings while allowing two hits and one run, with eight strikeouts and two walks to go along with it.

Belchertown is now 7-4 overall.

Wahconah 21, Amherst 2 — The Hurricanes, which dropped to 1-11, allowed 20 or more runs for the third time this season.

Pioneer 6, Frontier 4 — The Redhawks were close, but they couldn’t quite serve the Panthers their first loss of 2025 on Wednesday afternoon in South Deerfield.

Joey Hutkoski struck out three in 4 1/3 innings work before Carter Miller went the rest of the way, striking out one and allowing three hits. After the Redhawks put a pair on in the bottom of the fifth, Brady Poreda singled to drive in Jack Cusson before Kaden James hit a sac fly to bring in Ben Caron to cut the lead to 6-3 going into the sixth. 

Henry Drinker walked and Shawn Baumann reached on an error to open the sixth and later in the inning Grayson Bishop, running for Drinker, scored on an error throw down to third to cut the lead to 6-4.

Athol 23, Smith Academy 2 (5) — The Falcons were held to four hits in the defeat. Harry LaFlamme had Smith Academy’s lone RBI.

Monson 10, South Hadley 5 — The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Mustangs responded with six runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to seize control and pull away on Wednesday in Monson.

Noah Carillon recorded two hits, two runs and an RBI, Lincoln Belsky ripped an RBI hit while Jackson Keller, Logan Carpenter and Gavin Carpenter each hit safely for South Hadley.

Chicopee Comp 6, Holyoke 1 — Only one hit came off the Purple Knights bats on Wednesday afternoon, and it was sophomore Aiden Robinson who recorded it.

Matthew Dumoulin scored the lone Holyoke run in the top of the fourth inning.

Ludlow 10, Granby 3 — Two big innings from the Lions sank the Rams on Wednesday. Ludlow scored four in the third inning and six in the seventh inning, as Granby dropped to 1-9.

Brandon Carillon, Gavin Moreno and Anthony Misiaszek tabbed hits for the Rams in the defeat.

Softball

Hampshire 11, Agawam 1 — CC Thayer went 3-for-3 from the plate, including a home run, and drove in four runs for the Raiders in the big victory. Hampshire had 14 hits in total and its most prolific inning came during the fourth when it plated six runs.

Ryanne Dubay pitched a gem from the circle, striking out nine Brownies batters while allowing five hits and one run with two walks for the Raiders, which move to 12-0.

Granby 24, Mahar 6 (5) — A 16-run third inning powered the Rams to their fourth consecutive victory. Granby concluded the contest with 18 hits.

Cassie Flaherty was on fire from the plate, going 5-for-5 (two singles, two doubles, triple) with seven RBIs. Mabel Carillon earned the win in the circle for the Rams.

Frontier 16, Southwick 3 (5) — Skyler Steele went 4-4 with two home runs and five RBIs while Ashley Taylor struck out seven in the circle and added two hits as the plate as the Redhawks cruised to an independent victory in South Deerfield Wednesday. 

Olivia Machon knocked a triple, three singles and drove in three runs, Delaney Fifield (three hits, two RBIs), Raine Wonsey (RBI) and Addie Ehle (two hits, RBI) each doubled while Sophia Pinardi drove in three in the winning effort.

Lenox 20, Smith Vocational 2 (5) — The undefeated Millionaires looked every bit the part on Wednesday, defeating the Vikings in dominant fashion.

Smith Voc plays Lenox again on Thursday before traveling to Renaissance on Friday to round out a packed week.

South Hadley 10, Easthampton 0 (5) — A whopping 20 strikeouts from Ella Schaeffer as well as seven Tigers runs in the first inning propelled them to their sixth win and second shutout of the season.

South Hadley tallied seven hits in the win while the Eagles recorded two.

Boys lacrosse

Amherst 15, Belchertown 6 — Tre Bowman (five goals, two assists) and Sawyer Ferro (four goals, one assist) had stellar days to lift the Hurricanes to a decisive win over the Orioles on Wednesday.

Silas Hazen (one goal, five assist) recorded six points while Tri Nguyen (two, two) notched four points in the Amherst win. Jason Kim made nine saves in the cage.

Northampton 12, Brattleboro Union 6 — The Blue Devils kept their perfect season intact with the victory in Vermont on Wednesday.

Northampton moved to an impressive 11-0 following the win.

Girls lacrosse

Northampton 11, Westfield 4 — Imanni Power-Greene and Teagan McDonald combined for 12 points to send the Blue Devils past the Bombers. Power-Greene provided a hat trick and four assists while McDonald mustered four goals and an assist. Makayla Fydenkevez also had a hat trick for the victors.

The game was tied 3-3 after the first quarter, but Northampton netted eight of the game’s final nine goals to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Tantasqua 15, Belchertown 7 — The Orioles are still searching for their first win of the season as Wednesday’s loss drops them to 0-9 this year.

Boys volleyball

Southwick 3, Frontier 2 — The Redhawks took a 2-1 lead but the Rams stormed back to earn a 25-20, 16-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-10 win at Goodnow Gymnasium Wednesday. 

Tegan Dexter put down 26 kills and made 11 digs, Nate Rivera tallied 13 kills and 18 digs, Will Reading put down eight kills, Tavo Vincent-Warner dished 44 assists while Evan Maio made 11 digs for Frontier.  

East Longmeadow 3, Belchertown 0 — The Orioles put up a fight, but the Spartans showed why they’re one of the best in Western Massachusetts, winning in three sets.

The closest set saw Belchertown get within seven points, which occurred in the last set of the match. The final set scores came in as 25-14, 25-14, 25-17.

Shea Maclean had nine kills and a block, Collin Mullen dished out nine assists and Rocco Meausky managed an assist and two aces for the Orioles.

Track

Belchertown 112, Monson 9 (boys) — The Orioles won every event of the meet to cruise to victory. Ryan Volz-Benoit won two events (100 hurdles, 400 hurdles) to lead Belchertown to its first victory of the season.

Belchertown 69, Monson 54 (girls) — Wins in the 4x100 (52.7 seconds) and 4x400 (5:29) relays gave the Orioles 10 critical points en route to their victory. The Orioles did well in the field too, winning four of the six events. Aubrey Klingensmith finished first in the javelin for Belchertown, with a throw measuring at 79 feet.

Easthampton 101, Palmer 13 (boys) — Jackson Doubleday and Liam Scott-Smith each took two events to push the Eagles past Palmer. Doubleday won the 400 (58.4) and 800 (2:25), while Scott-Smith won the 100 (12.2) and 200 (26.1).

Easthampton 107 Palmer 24 (girls) — Addie Barr set a school record in the 800, finishing in a time of 2:37, to highlight an impressive performance on the track for the Eagles. Morgan Wijnhoven (100, 400) and Leia Halfacre (shot put, discus) won multiple events for Easthampton.

Youth baseball

Northampton U14

Amherst 2, Northampton 1 — Nick Stinson drove in both of Amherst’s runs as the Hurricanes came out on top in Tuesday’s tightly-contested Koufax battle.

Oliver Yau brought in Northampton’s single run during the bottom of the fifth, which tied the game at 1-1. Stinson’s fielder’s choice RBI during the top if the seventh ultimately gave Amherst the victory.

Gus Garrett Peltier took the win on the mound for the Hurricanes, but Cyrus Arwade started and was brilliant as the flamethrower allowed no hits, no runs and struck out 12 in four innings.

Dylan Lawrence-Riddell, who surrendered three hits and one run (unearned), fanned eight batters in a strong start for Northampton.
