High Schools: Granby wrestling falls to Athol, 64-16 (PHOTOS)

It was always going to be a challenge for the Granby wrestling team against Athol on Wednesday.
The Bears were able to fill their entire lineup, leaving the Rams to drop 30 points by forfeiture alone. That led to Athol running away with a 64-16 victory at Mallet Gymnasium in Athol.
Nate Benson (113) and Simon Speek (126) won via pin while Tyler Quist won via decision at 175 for Granby.
Shepherd Hill 43, Holyoke 32 – A slow second half sank the Purple Knights on Wednesday. Holyoke trailed 24-22 at halftime, but were outscored 19-10 in the second half to fall to 1-9.
Kiara Perez had the most points for Holyoke with 11. Evangeline Cauley was next with eight points for the Purple Knights.
Holyoke has not won since Dec. 12 when it beat Chicopee, 41-32.
Amherst 4, McCann Tech 3 – Ethan Mooney’s hat-trick goal in overtime gave the Hurricanes the come-from-behind victory.
Mooney scored at 3:37 of the extra frame to seal Amherst’s third consecutive victory. The Hurricanes trailed 3-2 at the beginning of the third period, but Joshua Feldman’s strike forced overtime at Orr Rink.

South Hadley 50, Frontier 27 — Zach Willette (106, major decision), Theo Kohm (113, forfeit), PJ Lavelle (120, tech fall), Ryan LaChance (126, tech fall), Jackson Erali (138, pin), Grace Brach (150, forfeit), Eli Yakoulen (165, pin), Renzo Carrero (190, forfeit) and Roberto Melendez (285, pin) were the Tigers’ winners in a vcitory over Frontier on Tuesday.
Zach Brown (132, decision), Massimo DiBari (144, pin), Konnor James (157, pin), Johnathan Olvera (175, pin), Kaden James (215, pin) picked up wins for Frontier.
Boys basketball
Springfield Central 82, Northampton 43 — Naihmond Peters-Wolfe went off for 28 points, but the Blue Devils were overpowered by one of the best teams in western Mass. as the Golden Eagles ran away with the win on Tuesday.
Central held a 47-20 lead at halftime and outscored Northampton 27-7 in the third quarter to pull away for good.
