We in the Valley are fortunate to have a responsive, caring, engaged congressional representative in Jim McGovern. I’m sure many reading this letter heard him answer questions for hours in his Northampton or Greenfield listening sessions. There was obvious support and appreciation for Rep. McGovern in both standing-room-only gatherings.

There also was evident underlying frustration with the lack of demonstrable action by the congressional Democrats as a body. Where is the outrage? Where is the condemnation? Where is the pushback of this coup taking place before our eyes?

I suggest our representatives and senators start holding a press conference shortly after each press conference of President Donald Trump. This alternative/additional press conference is called to “correct” whatever Trump has just proposed, declared, suggested. It consists of “just the facts,” not condemnations, evaluations, editorializing, justifications. This immediate response serves as a reality check on Trump and his cabinet appointees. It is the voice of dissent.

Such a “press conference” does not have to be any elaborate affair; rather, just a few, even one, elected congressional official, stating the facts. I would call them the Truth Telling Press Conferences — an information service the press and public can rely on and easily access after any of Trump’s administration assertions.

If you agree, please swamp your congressional representatives and senators with this idea. Share with your lists, family and friends. Encourage all to write and call for timely Truth Telling Press Conferences.

This is easy to accomplish and execute. It provides a unified action of our elected representatives and can quickly make an impact. If you agree, get to work right now.
