In Olin Rose-Bardawil’s column “Corporate capture a grave threat to citizens” [Gazette, April 11], he argues that corporate involvement in agencies is determining federal regulations, which results in increased profits for industries, leaving people in harm’s way. Corporate capture especially allows for companies to pollute, unchecked by federal regulation. With an issue this complicated the solution is probably not a simple one. There is, however, a way to start keeping corporations in check when it comes to pollution, and that is with a carbon fee and dividend. The government could tax corporate polluters with a carbon fee, then, the money collected would go back to the American people. Pushing legislatures to tax polluters at the source pushes back against corporate capture.
