In the ongoing debate about the Amherst Jones Library renovation, the Jones Library director has repeatedly asserted that renovation without expansion will cost more than the proposed expansion plan. This cost anomaly only exists because the town asked the MBLC for a subsidy of the expansion plan, but never asked for support of a basic renovation. Why is it that we have not asked the MBLC to support a more modest renovation-only plan? If making the request is a long or cumbersome process, wouldn't requesting support for renovation be urgent?
