According to a front-page story in the Gazette, Amherst will be using the former VFW site to open a shelter and community space for the unhoused that will include one-bedroom apartments and associated services [“Joint shelter, housing in works,” Oct. 2]. Northampton is struggling to sell the former Registry of Deeds building on King Street after purchasing an overpriced church that needs expensive renovations to become the Resiliency Hub.

This doesn’t make financial sense and will not significantly improve conditions for the unhoused in Northampton. Am I missing something?
