The Veteran’s Day ceremony on Monday was the first official celebration at the newly landscaped Town Common, according to Lynn Griesemer, the president of the Town Council. She read the governor’s proclamation of Veterans Day, which attracted veterans, their families, Police Chief Gabe Ting, acting Fire Chief Lindsey Stomgren and state Rep. Mindy Domb. Veterans service agent Steven Connor was the emcee.

We said “Goodnight to the moon,” now you can say “Goodnight to a barn.”

Historic Northampton is holding an open house at the Shepherd Barn with cider and doughnuts from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. At 5 p.m., all those present will say “goodnight” as the barn is tucked away for the winter with a special song.

Gallery A3 will hold its Small Wonders Holiday Show and Sale Dec. 5-28 with an opening reception Dec. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. Small is the operative word since none of the pieces are larger than 10-by-10 inches. The gallery is open Thursday-Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m.

You could have walked across the Fort River on stones, the water level was so low as seen from the bridge on West Street. The rain Sunday night helped the flow, but it is still shallow.

Many thanks to those who put in a designated left turn lane at the light on West Street- East Hadley Road. Regular motorists knew to drive next to the bridge railing when cars were signaling a left turn. Otherwise, there was quite a wait.

The Amherst Senior Center is collecting donations for its Clause for a Cause project. The center is looking for puzzle books, hard candies, low-sugar hard candies, tea, hot chocolate, lotion, lip balm, warm clothing, blankets and self-care items that will be used to fill gift bags for seniors. Items can be brought to the Bangs Center until 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13.

The items will be packed Dec. 17 and distributed Dec. 18. If you want to help pack, give Julia MacFadzen a call at 259-3038 or email macfadzenj@amherstma.gov.
