GREENFIELD — Make it nine wins in a row for the Belchertown Post 239 Senior American Legion baseball team, as it scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to an 11-3 victory over Greenfield Post 81 on Tuesday evening at Vets Field.

Nick Stinson’s gem of a relief outing (five innings, no runs) gave the Amherst Sandy Koufax baseball team the opportunity to pull away from a scrappy Greenfield team that put up four runs in the top of the first on Saturday. Stinson pounded the strike zone over his five innings, striking out five and allowing only two hits. Amherst’s 12-6 PVYBL victory took them to 9-2-1 on the season.

A combined no-hitter from Josh Misiaszek and Ryan Gould, and 10 hits on offense propelled the Belchertown Post 239 Senior American Legion baseball team to a dominant 9-1 victory over Aldenville Post 337 in a rematch of last year’s District 3 title game on Monday evening at Belchertown High School. The victory marked Post 239’s third in a row.

Last September, the City of Belchertown put out a call for muralists to decorate three unusual canvases: transfer station containers, which hold large amounts of recyclable materials. The intent, according to a press release, was to “enhance the visual appeal of the site while also conveying the message that every resident’s effort contributes to a larger process.” Each mural had to use imagery related to Belchertown, drawing from nearly 100 responses to a community survey, and follow the theme “recycle, reuse, reduce, regenerate.”
